The black brick paving trail circles the lake is a specific style for Jiangnan gardens. “Brick paving” is not only a technique that would naturally creates a drainage system, but also a nice design to decorate the trail. There are pattern of chevron type, of geometric type, and also some mean fortune and luck that were created by pebbles and tile.

These specially created patterns include: flowers with bugs and birds, Four Treasures of Study, butterflies, Chinese flowering crab-apple, bottle gourd, The character “Fu”(blessing), the eight divinatory trigrams, The Eight Immortals, five bats with the character of “Shou” (blessing and longevity), vase with reed-pipe wind instrument(smooth path in career). It brings out a bit fun to discover these different patterns along the willow trees.
