The orderly black stones lining the shores of Tongli Lake originate from thousands of miles away. This 20,000-ton Guangxi black stone—originally outer layers discarded after quarrying due to weathering—was rescued by the hotel's garden designers from being abandoned. Transported by train from Guilin's mountainous regions to the hotel site after an arduous journey, it has been extensively used to pave the shores and construct pools, preventing further deforestation and mountain destruction for landscaping purposes.
This is just one example of resource recycling and reuse throughout the hotel grounds. Everywhere in the garden, you'll find the century-old trees saved from being cut down; ancient Suzhou residences rescued from demolition; discarded antique millstone bases repurposed; centuries-old paving bricks preserved from destruction... These fragments of history from different eras and regions have found new life here and into our daily surroundings.
